6 Black Podcasts You Should be Listening To

There are so many great black podcasts out there that a lot of people haven't heard of. I've rounded up a list of my most listened to podcasts.  You'll find some well-known wonders and some hidden gems that will make your long commutes a little easier to handle. Let me know what your favourite podcast  is in the comments section

1. Mostly Lit

Mostly Lit is a podcast that mixes books with pop culture. It's hosted by a dynamic trio that actually met on social media. Law Student, Rai, Derek (Who hadn't read a book cover to cover until he was 23), and Alex a journalist who works in the media. Half of the fun of listening to this is watching Derek and Rai fight with each other over anything and everything, but also just watching the trio bounce ideas and thoughts off each other and reflect on what's happening in the world. Most of all these guys are out to let everyone know that books can actually be pretty sweet when you give them a chance.

2. The Read

Expect shade in full. I have been religiously listening to The Read for over a year now. It's a hilarious podcast hosted by Comedian Kid Fury and Radio star Crissle that talks about everything black. These two aren't afraid to read anyone to filth and you'll have a blast listening to them do it. If you're looking for an unfiltered and entirely hilarious take on the world give these guys a go. The best part of these are the listeners' questions, there's everything from shady bottoms to love triangles to messy cousins.

3. In Good Company with Otegha Uwagba

This podcast is hosted Otegha Uwagba, author of Little Black Book a toolkit for working women and founder of Women Who, a network of resources for women working in creative industries. Whether you're just getting started or have been at it for years, this podcast will give you all the tools you need to be a girl boss. Expect lots of interviews, advice and illuminating conversations with successful women doing amazing things.

4. RuPaul: What's The Tea?

If you love mama Ru, you'll love this. This Podcast shows a more vulnerable and revealing side of the famous RuPaul. Here you don't get the wigs, the make-up but don't worry you're never short of great one-liners. Here Mama Ru and Michelle Visage act as your cool aunties, talking about anything from confidence to style. This dynamic duo is not afraid to give it to you straight, no chaser. The two bounce off each other so well and you really get a glimpse of their rock solid friendship. Expect some laughs, tears and some powerful life lessons. Each episode they bring out a fantastic guest who always bring a really interesting layer to the show, so keep your eyes peeled for the ones you particularly like. My fave was miss Niecy Nash.

5. 2 Dope Queens

COME ON LADIES GET THAT REPRESENTATION. The amazing Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson, (a.k.a the black Daria), teamed up to bring you this brilliant gem of a podcast. It doesn't get any better than this. Expect women of colour and LGBT comedians killing it in every conceivable way. The women talk about race, black hair, romance, sex - all that good stuff.

6. Sooo Many White Guys

If the name itself doesn't sell you then allow me to elaborate. Any POC who has ever been a token anything- this one is for you. Hosted by Phoebe Robinson, this podcast was a response the overwhelming reign of white guys in comedy. Each podcast she hosts honest, hilarious and revealing interviews with musicians, actors, writers, and comedians. Oh, and none of them are white and all of them are killing it.
